I went from $1,800 a month to just $400 to $500. Just a no brainer. With not worrying about my budget as much, I can offer to give my kids rides to more places, and even drive their friends. Before it was like “Okay, I got a quarter tank of gas. It's gotta last me till Tuesday.” I would say “their parents can drive them.” But charging, especially free charging, has made my life so much easier.

I drive a lot, spending like $1,000 a month with my gas car. Even with my hybrid, it’s like $500 a month. So I did the calculation, and having an EV is much better for me. And you just change windshield wipers and tires, and barely ever change the brakes. So no more big engine repair bills.

The gas savings is a huge benefit. And I never think about oil changes, it’s just software updates. If you do need a repair, you don’t worry as much about ‘is this a good mechanic?’ because the cars are so simple. So it eases the headache from that too.

You buy an EV for all the mature, responsible adult reasons. And then you find out, like wow, this is way more fun to drive than my other vehicle. The acceleration was extremely surprising. Way more fun on a winding road. So that’s the cool cherry on top, where this is the most fun vehicle I’ve ever driven, the fastest and the safest.

Breathe Easy, Drive Green: The Environmental Impact of EVs

The US transportation sector pollutes our air and generates more planet-warming carbon dioxide pollution than any other.

More than 80% of transportation emissions come from vehicle tailpipes. (The rest is from planes, ships, trains etc.)

EVs have ZERO tailpipe emissions. This means less damage to our kids' developing lungs and brains. And in every state in the nation, EVs emit less carbon dioxide than gas cars. This means driving electric reduces risk of flooding, fires, Category 5 hurricanes and other extreme weather events.

The more miles you drive, the more you help make the world better by driving an EV.

Gasoline SavingsSwitching from a gas-powered vehicle to an electric vehicle (EV) offers substantial savings on fuel and maintenance costs. For superusers—those in the top 10% of US light-duty vehicle gasoline consumption—EVs can save aroung 5k annually. With an average annual cost of $3,998 for EVs compared to $8,933 for gasoline cars, the financial benefits of driving electric are clear.

Every time I get behind a diesel truck, I'm smelling the exhaust, and I'm like, I don't wanna add to that, I don't wanna pollute. That's something that I felt just makes you feel good about it right?

It’s a little extra money up front, but you’re going to save in the long run. You’re way ahead of the curve, saving all this money on gas. And it’s a lot easier, because they’re better built and there aren’t these unpredictable problems popping out of nowhere.

EVs save you time.

They charge while you’re parked at home, work or in a shopping center, doing other things. Never visit a gas station again – save 11 hours a year by not pumping gas!

For most EV drivers, the only maintenance is rotating the tires → less time (and money!) on maintenance. And skip the traffic with a carpool lane pass.

EVs are fun to drive.

With instant torque, phenomenal acceleration and low center of gravity for incredible handling, many EVs exceed the performance of comparable gas cars.

EVs are quiet

Have a conversation or listen to a podcast with no annoying engine noise. First-time drivers of EVs often remark how much quieter and nicer it is in the cabin.

EVs are cheaper to maintain than gas cars.

EVs have about 20 moving parts, while gas cars have hundreds. Fewer parts to break means less time and money on maintenance and repairs.EV drivers spend about half as much on maintenance and repair, saving an average of $4,600 over their vehicle’s lifetime — and that’s not even including the savings on fuel!

Prices for many EVs are now cheaper than for equivalent gas cars.

Many EVs are already sticker price-competitive with comparable gas cars — and that’s NOT including the $7500 federal tax credit available as cash on the hood for new EVs, $4,000 for used EVs, plus thousands of dollars of additional incentives in many states.

EVs are cheaper to drive.

Fuel costs all across the country are cheaper per mile for electricity than for gasoline – on average 5c/mile for EVs vs 15c/mile for gas cars.. The more you drive, the more you save! Try the EV Cost Savings Calculator to see how much you could save by switching to an EV.

Range anxiety with EVs is fast becoming a thing of the past.

The average range of an EV today is almost 300 miles, and ranges are increasing substantially each year. Most drivers rarely take trips that challenge the range of today’s EVs. Drivers who can install home EV charging wake up every morning to a full charge. For road trips, high-speed chargers continue to become increasingly available across the country.

EVs are as reliable as gas cars, and much more efficient.

EVs have already proven reliable in cold weather countries like Norway. EVs have better efficiency than gas cars, with EVs at around 90% efficient at converting energy into power, vs gas cars at 40%. Also, EVs waste much less energy than gas-powered vehicles while idling, and even recapture energy when braking!

EVs are less likely to catch fire than gas cars.

Gas and diesel powered vehicles are also known as “internal combustion engine” vehicles. They work by combusting, or exploding, gasoline. They are 60+ times more likely to catch fire than electric vehicles. A nationwide shift toward electric vehicles could prevent hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries in vehicle fires.
